Lev hasn't had an easy time with reading. When he went into first grade he was the only one who couldn't read already, mostly die to the fact that he went to a Waldorf school for kindergarten. His teacher chalked his issues in class up to ADHD, which he doesn't have, and ignored the obvious- he couldn't read! We started with a tutor around May and he had improved immensely.
In his new school, kids are broken up into reading groups and stay for an extra hour once a week. Today we learned that Lev was bumped up to a higher group. Yes, he goes to the tutor twice a week, but he has also begun to practice reading on his own by taking a copy of the Torah with Hebrew only, curling up in a chair and reading out loud. He has earned this. I doubt it will be long until he is moved to an even higher group.
